Built by devs,
for devs.
The Dev Setup started as a personal list of gear we thought was worth using. It grew into this site because people kept asking us what gear we felt were great for developers (and would use in our own offices).
How this started
TheDevSetup started as a personal spreadsheet. A running list of gear worth buying, shared with friends who kept asking what keyboard I was using, what monitor setup I'd recommend, whether that desk lamp was actually worth it. Eventually the list got long enough that it made more sense to put it online.
Why this exists
There's no shortage of gear review sites out there. Most of them are optimized for ad revenue, not honest recommendations. Products get featured because they convert well, not because they're actually good.
TheDevSetup is the thing I wished existed — a clean, no-noise place where a fellow developer has already done the research, so you don't have to spend three hours reading Reddit threads before buying a keyboard.
What makes the list
Products get added when they clear all four of these — not just one or two.
A note on affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click through and buy something, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — that's what keeps the site running and the content free.
It never influences what gets recommended. If a product stops being worth buying, it comes off the list. Full details on our disclosure page.
